New models are entering the automotive villa, with popular brands like Chevrolet and Dodge already unveiling sneak peeks at future 2027 models. Ford, however, has been hush-hush on what’s to come for 2027.

Until now.

A recent interview between Automotive News and the president of Ford Blue and Model e, Andrew Frick, has pointed towards the revival of sedans — in the form of a four-door Mustang.

The Death of Ford Sedans

The Ford Fusion was discontinued in 2020, so it’s been six years since the final sedan in the Ford lineup was produced. The move to eliminate the Ford sedan, buried in the automotive graveyard next to the Taurus, Fiesta, and Focus, was based on profitability rather than demand.

As reported by Motor1, in an interview with Automotive News earlier this year, CEO Jim Farley said, “The sedan market is very vibrant. It’s not that there isn’t a market there. It’s just we couldn’t find a way to compete and be profitable.”

Not all hope for the future of the Ford sedan was lost, however, as Farley finished his sentiment with a hopeful nod towards the future.

“Well, we may find a way to do that.”

The Revival of a New Four-Door Mustang Sedan? Maybe.

Rumors have been circling for the past couple of years about a potential four-door Mustang sedan entering the market, but to no avail. However, a recent interview with Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue and Model e, may have just given new strength to the gossip.

According to Road and Track, Automotive News talked with Frick about what’s to come from the popular brand, including the possible revival of a sedan.

“There is a percentage of the customer base that still buys sedans,” Frick said. “It’s a lot smaller than it once was. It used to be 50 percent, now it’s 16, 17 percent. We have a really great Mustang that people consider a car. We look to expand on the Mustang family as we move forward.”

Ford has hinted at growth for the Mustang lineup before. Road and Track notes that, back in 2024, Ford teased two Mustang models to dealers: a four-door coupe and an all-wheel-drive off-road model. Building on the rumor mill, Ford trademarked the name “Mach 4” in 2025.

“I think, for us to do [a sedan], it’s going to have to make sense within our portfolio,” Frick said. “It’s going to have to make sense within a family that we may already offer.”

Has hope been restored for the future of sedans with a new four-door Mustang? Time will tell.
