This popular midsize SUV is gearing up for its return, but is it ready to be a front-runner among three-row SUVs?
The 2027 model is a resounding YES.
With new packages on the horizon, including an appearance package that’s as dark as the night itself, and some modern amenities, we can’t say we disagree with the Explorer’s assessment.

A 2027 Ford Explorer Redesign? Not Yet
As more information on the 2027 Explorer is revealed, the question on everyone’s mind is this: Will we see a redesigned Explorer?
Sadly, we have some bad news for those looking for something completely fresh and new from the SUV…
After the Explorer went through a mid-cycle refresh in 2025 that saw some subtle changes to the exterior styling, interior design improvements, and revamped technology, the 2027 model is going forward largely unchanged from the 2026 version.
But just because we aren’t seeing a redesign doesn’t mean we won’t get some exciting new upgrades.
For the new model year, two new packages will be joining the lineup: the Sinister appearance package and a Security package.
A Sinister Look: A Closer Look at the “Goth” Inspired Appearance Package
The 2027 Ford Explorer ST trim will offer an optional Sinister package and, needless to say, the name fits.
Explorer ST models equipped with the Sinister package will come straight from the production line with a blacked-out aesthetic, featuring dark-accented ST badging, amber-colored running lights, and 21-inch gloss black wheels.
Setting a New Precedent for Safety
For a vehicle that thrives on going into the unknown, you deserve to get there with peace of mind. For 2027, all Ford Explorer trims will offer a new Security package to enhance daily driving security.
The new Ford security package will include Theft Alerts, which work with the app to deliver notifications straight to your smartphone when your Explorer is being tampered with. Start Inhibit gives Ford owners the ability to remotely lock down their vehicles, keeping the power directly where it belongs–in your hands.
Ford is offering a complimentary one-year trial for the security package through your Ford account. For more information, talk to a member of our team at House Ford today!
2027 Ford Explorer Features & Highlights
The new Ford Explorer for sale will offer the features we’ve come to know and love, along with some additional tech upgrades for the modern driver.
Performance Highlights
Under the hood, you’ll have two engine options: the turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder or the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine. The former will be standard on the Active, ST-Line, Tremor, and Platinum trims, delivering 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.
The V6 engine, on the other hand, powers the ST with an impressive 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, though all-wheel drive is available.
All models come with a Class III Towing package, which includes a hitch, a trailer wiring harness, and a trailer sway control system, all designed to make towing up to 5,000 pounds a breeze.
Interior Comfort & Tech
The Explorer has been known to favor function over form, but the 2027 model is starting to see the artistry in mastering both.
The Explorer’s cabin features materials that are soft to the touch, which pair beautifully with a functional cargo tray to stash your smartphone, keys, wallet–you name it!
Choose between the captain’s chairs or a bench configuration for an additional spot in the backseat, and rest assured that adults and children alike will find it comfortable for long adventures or quick errands.
A 13.2-inch LCD touchscreen infotainment system is standard, giving you access to apps and services on both Google and Amazon. Find yourself mindlessly scrolling while parked? Stream videos from YouTube, browse the internet, or play games on Google Play while you wait!
Other technology features include:
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
- Eight USB ports
- Three 12-volt power sockets
- Three stereo system options: Six-speaker, Bang & Olufsen 10-speaker system or Bang & Olufsen 14-speaker system
