As reported by Car and Driver, a post on Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum declared that Ford’s heavy-duty pickups were dropping their base-spec gas and diesel engines, making the 7.3-liter Godzilla V8 the standard engine across the lineup. If you’re interested in a diesel alternative, your only choice will now be the high-output Power Stroke 6.7-liter V8. 

The New Standard: Ford’s 7.3L Godzilla V8 

When it comes to gas power, nothing quite matches the output of the aptly named Ford Godzilla V8 engine. 

Declared the most powerful gas engine in its class, the Godzilla engine delivers an impressive 430 horsepower and 485 lb-ft of torque. Perfect for Ford drivers who want an extra ounce of power without moving to diesel, the Godzilla can tow just over 18,000 pounds. 

The 7.3-liter Godzilla V8 currently comes standard on 2026 King Ranch and Platinum models, and features a forged-steel crankshaft and cast-iron block with four-bolt and cross-bolted main bearings. 

The Sound of Power: The Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel Engine Options 

While the 2027 Ford Super Duty lineup plans to say sayonara to the standard-output Power Stroke V8, we aren’t ready to say goodbye just yet, and neither is the 2026 Ford Super Duty lineup. 

6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel 

The standard output Power Stroke V8 is for those ready to take the leap to more power, enhanced performance, and reliability you can trust without question. 

Capable of delivering 475 horsepower at 2,600 RPM and 1,050 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 RPM, the 6.7-liter V8 is all power, no brakes. 

Built with forged-steel pistons, glow plugs for cold-weather starts, and a 36,000-PSI fuel-injection system, the standard output engine choice feels anything but standard. 

High-Output 6.7L Power Stroke V8 

The sounds of this engine are nothing compared to the moment your foot pushes down on the pedal. The high-output diesel engine, which will be the only option for future 2027 models, offers a best-in-class 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. 

When outfitted on an F-250 four-wheel-drive crew cab, get ready to tow up to 22,000 pounds with alarming ease. Equipped with a water-jacketed turbocharger and diesel engine exhaust braking, the high-output Power Stroke is nothing short of spectacular. 

Both engines are available on all 2026 Ford Super Duty models.
